The foyer naturally led to the living room, almost as if it were guiding Mateo further in. There, a few couches were intact. Upon further inspection, he found a few splotches of a reddish-brown stain on the worn leather. Mateo began to shudder, there was no real way to confirm if it was either oxidized blood or something else. There was more of that stain on the carpet below, leading straight to the fireplace.
Mateo spotted something hidden in the ashes, and crept toward the buried unknown slowly. As he gained a closer view, he made out a sharp metal point sticking out of the ashes. It was a firepoker, suprisingly pristine despite the bloody mess that is surrounding it. Something felt incredibly eerie about this place, and yet Mateo didn't want to end his investigation here. So, he pulled the firepoker out of its ashy grave, and brandished it to his side. Something about it made him feel safer, even though there was no immenent threat that has made itself known.
With a newly gained sense of confidence, Mateo turned over to the shelves, since they held a few pictures. Mateo picked the largest one up. There wre individual photos of each of the previous residents, with all of their faces blurred. One of the frames for the daughter had the name 'Ari' engraved at the top.
